Letter: My first “A” on an English Paper
I remember my sophomore year in high
school, when everyone was required to take the tenth grade writing test. My English teacher would teach me how to
write a thesis, and how to structure my essay.
We were supposed to have an introduction, three bodies, and a conclusion. My thesis was supposed to list the three main
points of the body paragraphs. That was
the only writing I had learned in high school.
I struggled when it came to developing a thesis for any paper longer
than two pages. I decided in college to
knock out two of my English classes in my freshman year, so I could just get
over with it. My two college semesters
with Professor Tetterton were the best English class I have ever had. I have grown to see my mistakes, such as elaborating
my details, and making my thesis “crystal clear” for my final, in which is to
revise project two.
When writing project two, I came to
understand Professor Tetterton critique about me being too vague. Reading over my blogs, I have notice that is
one of my major issues. I tried to
answer all the “so what” questions as I to elaborate and revised my blogs. I know I have improved, because I am able to
see my mistakes as a writer, when I review my previous projects. I feel I have
a better understanding of how to write a clearer detailed thesis by including
all the main points, even though it is not always as specific as I can make it;
however, I feel satisfied that I have improved.
Project two was my favorite project
to write, so it was a joy to revise it for my final portfolio. Without a doubt, I feel more confident as a
writer being able to observe my errors, writing more specific details and a
well developed thesis. I remember making
“C’s” on my English papers in high school and now making “A’s” or “B’s” on my college
English papers. I definitely feel much
successful as a writer.
